The IB History Internal Assessment (IA) involves a research-based historical investigation on a topic of the student’s choice. The IA is divided into three key sections:

Identification and Evaluation of Sources: Students select two primary or secondary sources related to their topic and evaluate their origin, purpose, value, and limitations (500 words).

Investigation: This is the main body of the IA, where students present their research, analyze the evidence, and address the research question (1,300 words).

Reflection: Students reflect on what they learned about the methods used by historians and the challenges of historical research (400 words).
The IA allows students to explore a specific historical question in-depth and accounts for 20% of the final grade at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL).
